Hi,

I have used Marine Tex successfully in the past - great product.
I want to patch a rounded corner at the stern and I was told that I should use the Marine Tex, then stretch plastic food wrap over the area to smooth the finish. In the past I have just used a little water on my finger.

If I do this should I let it dry with the wrap in place ?
Has anyone tried this with success ?

Thanks.
Ed

I see no need for the plastic wrap. Your previous method should work just fine.

Absolutely use the plastic. I use 2" wide plastic packing tape and it works great. You can get a perfectly smooth glass finish with it.

I rebuilt a rudder for a hobie cat sailboat using the tape method and it was a flawless repair. You will have the ability to push the marinetex into place.

I recently repaired a fiberglass truck fender using epoxy and on my final coat I used the 2" tape and once again it was great. Sure cuts back on any finish sanding time. Yes, let the marinetex cure and the plastic will peal away when dry. DO NOT get anxious .......let it dry.

Marinetex is too much money to have waste ;)

Bob VT - tape sticky side or smooth side against the Marine Tex? I think I know the answer but just checking.
