magneto system on super sea horse 40 hp jonhson

i have a 1966 super sea horse 40 hp jhonson that i just removed the fly wheel off of because i knew something was wrong with the magneto system n sure enough when i inspected it i found the ground lead on the coil was unattached my question is can i some how weld this wire back on the coil or do i have to replace the coil and the metal piece where the coil sits on. if any one would please help me out with this it'd be awesome!!

If there isn't anything left coming out of the coil to solder onto just replace the coil, they are cheap to replace.

You didn't ask, but just in case...the most important thing you do in there is reinstalling the flywheel. The tapers must be clean and dry and you must use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 100-105 ft lbs.

When you install the new coil make sure the laminated core ends are flush with the machined edges of the posts that they sit on.
