Lowrance hds5 and lss1 transducers

I am about to purchase these two units and i am wondering if the lss1 transducer pick up 2d also. The reason i ask is that i have seen the hds5 without transducer new for cheaper than buying with the transducer. Any insight would be appreciated....this is not a cheap purchase as you know and i just want to make sure i get the right setup. I was talking to a guy at a west marine but he was unsure of some of my questions.

You realize that the lss1 is a separate unit from the HDS display? You need a display, LSS module and the LSS transducer to make a functioning unit.

If it's for redundancy then you will need two transducers or a means of connecting the LSS module to either unit should one fail. If it’s for viewing area, get an 8” unit instead. Two 5” displays don’t have as much viewing area as a single 8”

Yes dingbat i am aware of needing both units and after poking around found out that you do need both transducers for optimal viewing. I was just double checking because its gonna be around $1300......but they are offering a $200 mail in rebate until february 12. West marine is selling the whole package just under that so i will problably get it there. Thanks for your input i do appreciate it.

Sorryu, I misunderstood your question. I understood you where buying two HDS units and wanted to know if had to buy a LSS transducer for each.
