lowering the bow

my mako 228(1984) ,,,225 hp evinrude (1986)....15x17 viper prop ( high rake bow lifting prop)....i run ok but i get destroyed in the chop...cant keep the nose down....going to get some tabs but should i change to a different prop also,,maybe somthing with less rake and a larger blade surface...maybe a four blade???? i have to put that bow down in the chop....if i got a four blade prop should i still get tabs....im all over the map here and could use some help from the experienced people here..thanks

consider your deadrise at the bow; a flat boat won't cut into chop as well as a deep v.

Helm adjustable tabs are the most amazing tool you will ever add to a v-hull boat. If you're prop is good for speed I'd leave it for now. Tabs will give you bow down trim range to a level that you cannot even understand at this point. Home Cookin' is correct, Bow entry deadrise is a big issue. However, Helm adjustable tabs will compensate for a lot. If anything can solve this issue with your boat, tabs can.

I am a huge fan of trim tabs for even sub-20 footers. There is no way anyone can understand unless they have used them. Sorry to be arrogant, but I am that confident in the utility of this tool.

Consider checking your floatation for waterlogging too. If you are carrying a few hundred pounds in the stern that could be your problem.
