Lower Unit

How much repairs can be done on my lower unit before I have to replace it. The gear on the long shaft is messed up and the gear that it meshed with.

Gears aren't too bad......you can get them jobber from NAPA. Its the driveshaft that presents a problem if messed up. Get a manual. You'll need it for pinion depth procedures.....

Hey thanks<br /><br />Its a 1994 Mercury 75 h.p. and it hadn"t been run for about three years, today was the first time and it came to a halt. Every one said that I would have to get a new lower unit but I can"t see why when there are only two gears messed up although I don"t know how I will get that nut off the long shaft which holds the gear on.
