The generic answer to your question is to first,disconnect the shift rod linkage and then all of the lower unit bolts that connect the lower unit to the mid-section.Don't forget the bolt under the trim tab and once the lower unit is removed don't allow the shift rod to rotate from its original position or its critical length will be compromised and cause shift linkage problems once reassembled.First timers should always use a service manual as a guide in performing this task.Many timers often do as well.
