lower unit question...

hey guys, i'm new to this forum. just bought a 16' boston whaler with an outboard evinrude 90hp engine. i want to check the condition of the water pump. i was taking apart the lower unit, and the shaft doesn't come lose. i tried taking off the starter selonoid and that didn't help much.

could i get any help or suggestions onhow to take off the lower unit???

the engine is a 94 90hp evinrude

Did you disconnect the shift rod? Get all bolts, including the one under the trim tab?

yeah the shift rod was taken off,

but as we speak. it has been taken off. thanks very mch. but heres comes another question a bit off topics..

under the water pump impeller, there is a seal that goes around the shaft, it has a little play, do you recommend to replace or is it soppuse to have some play???
