Alpha 1 gen 2 capri 1952 3 liter bayliner

Seems like the boat will not go into reverse once its all setup, it will go if I do it manually.
The lower shift cable brass thread does not seem to be fully seated into the housing.

What procedure is needed to redo the threaded seat so that the LScable can be threaded in properly ...

this video kinda outlines the situation but is from another boat on the internet ....

thanks

Another place to look is inside the shift slider. You of course have to pull the shift wire out first then remove the set screw. I have had to use a drill bit to clean out the build up inside.

OK I think I found the problem for my outdrive purgatory. In short buy and use the official lower shift cable tool . If I had done that last year when I initially changed out the lower shift cable ( lsc ) I would have been boating now.
I had bought the go thru tool. This tool I purchased has a problem specific to mercrusier aluminum lower unit. The go thru has a central socket that uses a changeable front and rear adapter . The rear part works ok...the front does not. About 2 /3 of the way up the socket the adapter is wider than the allowable max width of the lsc tool. This causes the brass 9/16 bolt in the lsc to gouge at the thread of the aluminum bell housing about 1/2 way thru on exit. The thread at this point becomes warped. The new lsc bolt only goes in part way. This stops the shift mechanizm from going into reverse as the bolt sticks out too much and there is no room to move the inner fork dohicky shifter to the reverse position when the outdrive is installed. Once I fixed that I think everything else worked ... even the outdrive shot on like a scalded cat going home.

thanks to all
