Had my third trip out yesterday, and it was a beautifully 65 degree day and I knew because it was a Sunday it would be interesting, The launch ramp was funny because those launching were all over the place, its a 4 lane ramp cut down to 2 lanes because several side ways lololol, but any way after getting it dropped in I idled over to the gas dock to fill up only to find it full, its a small private marina but the gas dock is open for public use and yes I keep a slip there, so I knocked it out of gear a decent distance away to wait, and took the time to stow a few items and after about a 10 minute wait, I noticed no one had got any gas at all, in fact no one was moving or doing any thing at all and if i turned around and backed in my 20 foot toon I could get the tank dock side to have it filled, so thats what I did. One guy did realize I was backing in, and he decided it was going to be close and he moved this john boat back a few feet, he was waiting on the wife to go to the bathrooms that are over by the launch ramp in the first place lol but having raised 3 daughters I well understand. but I got backed in fine and tied up dropped in the oil and went inside to have one of the staff guys come out and fill the tanks, I was expecting the shop to be full and no one but the staff guy was there. The other 3 boat owners were no where in sight, He was surprised to see the dock full himself. Its a gas dock not a courtesy dock. But any way I got my tanks filled. and headed out to ride around and fish awhile. and like I said earlier it was a beautifully day.

Funny, there's a couple of places around here where people seem to think the gas dock is a place to reminisce and shoot the breeze.

the gas guys at our dock get pretty ignorant about people tying up at the dock and going for other stuff.....i have seen them set boats adrift for tying up there......

i live on a pretty popular lake.....it has one major boat launch....just about the whole city launches there....

2 courtesy fingers, the gas dock is separate.....BUT...the gas dock is an access to a hotel pup/restaurant.

its kinda funny to see a guy yelling at the gas attendant about his boat that is now floating far from the dock.
The attendant standing there grinning saying, " this is a fuel only dock......i just fuel them...i don't check the ropes of boats i didnt tie, and we dont have a shuttle service for abandoned boats. maybe you should use the courtesy dock next time"

snickers, I would love to see that. But in this case their isn't a courtesy dock so its just the way it is and honestly its not a issue most of the time, Its small lake limited to 9.9 HP and 99% of the marina is pontoons and some of the nicest people you will ever run across. Right now its the john boat crappie crowd getting out on the first warm days and I sure understand that and don't blame them a bit. But it the gas dock and I am sure most don't buy their gas there. lol I did end up towing one in with a plugged up carb. First run of the year on old gas, imagine that.

The kayak guys are the worst at the boat ramps - especially when there are more than one of them, which seems always the case.

And that's absolutely fine, as long as there aren't people waiting. If there is, drop your lines and get the heck out of the way.

It's about time to dust off the video cameras, get out the lawn chairs and head to the ramps for the show.:)

I've had the best luck with those guys! All you have to do is back over a plastic kayak because you can't see it behind the trailer once and they stay out of your way from then on out.

Heh that's cause when we pay the gas bill, we almost feel like part owners! :D

I try not to lallygag around too much when it comes to things boating as I've found some can be in a real hurry and landing in there cross-hairs is not always the pleasurable experience one wants when boating.

Thanks for reminding me to do a couple practice runs on the driveway before I head out to the ramp.

LMAO. Maybe all the confirmed kill stickers on the side of the boat would be a warning sign.

For fear of bad karma, I haven't been to the local ramp for a show in a while. I feel like I see enough on launch days. But, ya know, I think I will stop by this weekend and laugh a little, but also lend the occasional hand. Well, unless my plans change and I decide to go boating, but there is some good times to be had at the ramp.

I went out this morning ( Sunday )to pull the boat out and check the LU for water leaks, I had it apart last week to do some work. When I arrived I saw a larger number of people gathered around the top of the ramp so I swung around and slowly started backing the trailer down after getting lined up and the people just sort of stood there giving me a dirty look and then it hit me, it was some local church group. And I apparently was in the wrong expecting to use a boat launch to retrieve a boat imagine that.

Sorry, i HAD to go there...............
