Long term effects of water in gas

I discovered what my motor problems were.....I was sabotaged!

Someone (I'm 99% sure who) dumped about 2-1/2 gallons of water in one of my tanks. About 1/2 quart of water was removed from my fuel injection system.

My question is what are the long term effects on my 97 200 EFI? It seems I've lost a little power and top speed when I had the boat out last. I'm concerned the water may have gotten onto the crank and bearing surfaces and will cause my motor a premature death. Is there anything I can do?

the biggest problems with RPM after water ingestion is the high pressure fuel filter will clog and the low pressure pumps get funky. I cant remember if your filter is the one mounted in the VST or at the top port side of it. also the injector filters can clog. you should have got a water in the fuel alarm long before it got to the vst. if you did not, test the alarm system and the filters sensor. a new filter comes with a new sensor.

The alarm system did work, but I thought it was the oil alarm sounding. I'm planning on dumping the seperator every time out for a while. I have the canister on the starboard side. My mechanic said there is another inside the VST. He cleaned everything while it was disassembled.

I felt pretty stupid I didn't find the problem, but I thought I had an oil system failure.

Thanks for the reply rodbolt!

Ok, maybe I jumped the gun. I bought new spark plugs yesterday, and installed them today. I discovered one of my plug wires was loose on the coil. I replaced the plugs anyway, and we're heading to the river tonight to watch fireworks. Unfortunately, I can't test the top speed as the speed limit is 40 on the river when not in the no wake zones. I can still test holeshot, though!
