Leaf Spring length ?

I need new springs for my Shoreland'r trailer single axle. I have not pulled a spring off yet, but have been trying to find replacements. They are the common 1 3/4 wide and current ones are 5 leaf units. The front eye is the standard eyelet and the rear is a c-hook(open slipper eye). From mounting center to center is 21 1/2". My question is this, should the open eye end be tight up against the bushing on the rear mounting bolt ? Currently there is about 1" or so gap between the bushing on the mounting bolt and the mouth of the slipper eye. My springs have lost some arch and not sure what the correct length is.

I made a crude MS paint picture, let me know if the rear mounting bolt should be at #1 or #2.

Re: Leaf Spring length ?

Unloaded it would be position 2, as weight is added the spring would lengthen to closer 1.

Thanks, so order length at #2 ? Since the one end is open I would think that I could get a spring a tad bit longer and be OK?

Re: Leaf Spring length ?

Now the weight rating question. The gross weight for trailer on the title is 2500#, boat dry weight is said to be 2200#. I've found spring rating at 1500# each and 1750# each in my size. They are both made by same manufacturer but the 1750# are $10 cheaper for some reason, but I'm concerned it may be a harsher ride for the boat. Thoughts ?

You above legal capacity with the 1500Lb springs. The difference in ride wouldn't amount to much with the 1750's. So either work. You only have 300lb for fuel and gear, Might want to look at a bigger trailer?

This is the trailer that Searay sold with the boats at the time. I have seen 5 of the same boats, all have the same model trailer. I'm not 100% sure if the weight on the title is what Shoreland'r rates it at. I will have to do some research.
