We are going to Lake Powell with our boat (18" Tahoe) for the first time - leaving this Monday. I did get some feedback on things to see. I would really like to know more about the Antelope Marina launch site - what does it cost to launch there & whatever else you can tell me. I've looked at their website but would like to hear personal experiences. We'll be staying in Page all week, but probably won't venture farther than Rainbow Bridge on any one day and will be coming back to the motel each day (not staying on the lake). Being new to boating (only have gone out on Lake Havasu and Lake Pleasant) we are still a little hesitant (translation, "scared"!!) about launching procedures, etc.
ELLEA@commspeed.net (Linn)
Thank you!!

Congrats ElleA. You'll have a blast. Nothing to be scared about, that 18' Tahoe is perfect for Lake Powell, big enough to be safe, yet small enough the gas bill doesn't break ya! :D

The fees as of last fall at Antelope were $31.00 for your boat and car for a week. You also have to use their vallet service too and that's another $30.00. I don't know if it's $30.00 a day since you're not staying on the lake. That could get pricey. When you get there, you'll pay your fees, get your boat ready and the vallet will launch your boat for you and park your car. Sorry, you won't get practice launching on this trip. They'll pick you up when you get back too. It's not run 24 hours a day though. It's something like 7am to 7pm. When I was there last fall, the marina didn't have much in the way of services. Gas only and junk food. They're opening restaurants and shops and stuff, but I don't think it's done yet.

Anyway, have a great time! Take plenty of gas and have a backup plan in case you get stranded. Cell phones don't work on most of the lake. Hope this helps.

:)

ElleA. Wahweep, but then you have to run the gauntlet to get to the main part of the lake. The other option is Bullfrog which is great and cheap, but a longer drive. :(

My suggestion would be launch from Wahweep as soon as there is enough light to see where you're going. It won't be busy yet, especially during the week, and plan a return early as well. If you have a chartplotter with the river on it, launch at night and it's smooth as you please.

What do you mean? Not a good idea?
$$$$ just money!

I suppose that those who boat in the ocean or rivers should have navigation tools like that.... but for my and my arizona lakes, I would rather have the cash for gas.

Re: Lake Powell - Antelope Marina

Our trip to Lake Powell went off without a hitch! We had three glorious days on the water. Launching from Antelope Pt. public launch was very easy as there was no boat traffic. BTW, it was $16 for a weekly boat permit.
