Re: Lake Marion South Carolina

Hey Guys, I have fished /boated lake Marion all my life and it is a great lake. Plenty of ramps on both sides of lake, most will charge 2-5 dollars to launch, but there are plenty of public ramps run by SCDNR. Get a map and watch for stumps. Lake was flooded with standing timber back in the 50's creating what was the dead forest, but Hurracane Hugo broke most of them off at, or just below water line. Channels are clearly marked but once out of channel can be very dangerous above idle/slow speed. Lots of boats/motors and lower units on bottom because people get overconfident and start running to fast. Always keep motor unlocked when on this lake because you will hit a stump sooner or later. Great fishing, Stripers,Bass, Catfish, Crappie, Bream.I split my time between Marion and Murray now since I only live 10 miles from Murray and 40 miles from Marion. I would suggest a guide for your first trip on lake. It can make the trip fun and informative. Email me at mike.mullis@sonoco.com if you want some more info. I love these lakes, and will be happy to help in any way possible.

Re: Lake Marion South Carolina

I have a house on Lake Marion but have just about stopped using my 18' I/O there. I have pranged more props in that lake in the past 3 years than I have the rest of my boating life. The lake is shallow, lots of stumps and logs. It's usually pretty choppy.. the slightest wind stirs it up. The south side of the lake below I-95 isn't too bad though, it's pretty clear on that side for gofasting. Good fishing there though :) I have gone all the way to Charleston and back from Lake Marion... interesting trip through the lock. You have to be very careful on the lower end of the lake... very aware of stumps and rocks unless you know the lake well.
