looking for ideas to report or fix this hazard, lake level is going down and one place in particular there is a train bridge.
Beside the bridge are the old steel supports from the old bridge just sticking up out of the water.
These have been lurking just below the surface and have the scars of many prop strikes visable now.

I have watched boats with tubes and skiers this summer going right over this hazard. Don't know of any injuries but if I had the way or means I would try to put some kind of marker/ or post that would be visable at all lake levels. If anyone boats at Norris lake, Tn. at the north east end beware those train bridges, do not pull or tow in or around those bridges. I have notified TVA, TWRA w/o results.

Just be extra carefull anywhere lake levels are falling. Places you went over yesterday may not be safe today.

My guess would be to contact the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as long as they have jurisdiction over this body of water.

Go to this Kentucky Fish and Game site, then search the document for "buoy" to see different ways buoys are used for safety etc..:

http://fw.ky.gov/fishboat04.asp

Good luck!

yeesh... a neighbor wanted me to take him out up there... thanks for the warning. I'm noticing sand bars on douglas lake that I never knew exhisted. Hard to keep up with the changes so I try to stick to guaranteed deep waters and travel well away from shorelines.

The lake area is at the Clinch river inlet end. It
is the area up towards hwy 25 that goes from Tazewell, Tn. to Clinch Mountain. I'm on the Kentucky/Tennessee border so Tennessee lakes are closer for me.

Tennessee, on a map it would be easier to look at Morristown, Tn. then follow hwy 25 north to Tazwell, tn. This the upper east Tennessee area, near the Kentucky border. Cherokee Lake will be next to Morristown, then look North and you will spot Norris lake.

Btw, those train bridges are pretty cool, the 1st comes out of a tunnel, crosses lake, goes to next bridge and back into another tunnel.

Thanks for info byrdog I was just wondering, I work for the Dept of Fish & Wildlife. All those TVA lakes and Peabody Coal Stripper pit lakes have some treasures or hazzards. So numerous that alot aren't even on maps. I'm not sure that lake is under jurisdiction of DFW/KY. I'm not really sure though, I can find out though. I work in the 9th district. What counties in Ky does the counties in TN border?

Bell Co. Ky. that borders Claiborne Co. Tn. , I'll have to study the map some to get you more info, thanks for your replys. I'm pretty sure this falls under TWRA and TVA, they post signs everywhere and the lake is about 25 miles from the Kentucky border at the closest point, my rough estimate.

Bell county is a county within the 9th district that I work in, but I guess if its not in Ky then you would have to go through TVA or TWRA. Good luck I do know that it is almost impossible to get TVA to ever do anything but good luck.

Re: Lake is going down ,Hazards popping up

I can tell you the process of reporting hazzards and any other problems that you might encounter on Ky Lakes that fall under the jurisdiction of the Ky Dept of Fish and Wildlife. The state of Ky is broken down into 9 districts which each district is made up of several counties. Each district has a commission member and there job is to approve and set hunting and fishing regulations which are according to statute. They also are supposed to "keep a watchful eye upon the Dept Of Fish and Wildlife. They report to the commissioner. So if you every have a problem on a KY lake, find out the county it is in and go to the DFW web site and see which district the county falls in. Once you've got the district it lists the commisssion members name and phone number and what district they are in. Just FYI.

I spent lots of this weekend on douglas lake... its dropping again now... lotsa sandbars that I used to cruise across at full speed and never knew they were there as this is my first year on this lake. I'm going slow and easy now gonna keep boating till its down so I know for next years where the shallows are when its full.
