Just got back from a trip up that way. Pend Orielle, Priest Lake and lake Coeur d' Alene. I liked the further north better, but your lake is really nice. A good chance to see something other than desert. I like Hell's canyon, and the reservoirs around here, but if I could, I'd probably move up to north Idaho. I buzzed around CDA lake and went up the St. Joe to St. Maries. That's kind of cool.

Its sad, I live in Sandpoint, keep my boat in the water on Pend O'reille Lake, but have yet to boat at CDA. Guess I figure "why bother", but I would like to fish CDA just for the sake of it. What I can't believe is that we pretty much have some of the best lake water in the western half of the country, there are billions of boaters on our lakes, yet I see a few Idaho boaters here on Iboats. Its always made me wonder why there are not more fellow Idahoans here...

Well, JasonJ, the answer is simple. There is not that much money in Idaho, as compared to lots of other states. I recently visited Sandpoint and Priest River. Now, really, what is the economy based on? Owning a chainsaw and cutting lumber? I think it would be tough to make a living up that way. Priest lake is WAY up there in the boonies. I think lake Pend Orielle is among the most beautiful I have seen, including Yellowstone. My depth finder only goes to 600 feet and I couldn't see the bottom or fish in half the lake. I didn't catch anything, but really enjoyed my visit. Saw lots of boats registered in Washington (WN) The HORNET.

It is tough to make a living here, but there is a lot more money here than it appears. Most of that money is out of town money, those who have summer homes, but if a person drives around town, there is easily at least 1 to 2 boats in the driveways on every block. All of them just ripe for restoring or whatever. The income of this state has had no impact on boat useage, people just use older boats. My point was, with all the boating that happens in this area, it surpises me how few have come to this site.

Our economy is based largely on tourism and service. If a person is in the customer service business, such as myself, there is money to be made. There is little industry, as the powers that be won't allow it, but they whine because there are so many people jobless or working minimum wage seasonal jobs. Sandpoint has been labeled the greatest town in the universe by all the stupid big magazines, but all it did was cause all the out of towners to buy up all the realestate, thus driving the cost of living through the roof. Then they go home to wherever, not caring that now a family who paid $500 a month to rent a decent house now pays $800 to $1000 a month for the same place. The locals cannot afford to live here anymore, and its too bad. Who are the rich people going to get to do all the work?

THE LOCALS, who will have to move farther out or live as slaves in the masters back outhouse. The rich/poor thing is disgusting. Here in Puget Sound its not much better. As an example, a dentist wants the same for say a crown on a retired old man, as the $800,000 a year lawyer, and this is where I get awful pissed off. I live way south, so it aint too bad down here. Seattle/Tacoma suck, and the laws passed are just plain self serving and stupid. Biker bars in the seedy parts (MOST) of Tacoma can't smoke inside! Cops ride in packs of a dozen, sitting on curves and nailing you for 10 over and seatbelts or whatever. Just revenue enhancers. They have undercover cops dart into crosswalks and fine drivers a hundred+ for not stopping. Anti-business gov (BLOATED GOV) is crazy. Retired people still have it made as to no taxes or food or service tax, and boating the sound, or riding the mountains are great. But I love Sandpoint P/R area. Its that 10% tax that I can't handle

Re: Lake Coeur d'Alene - anyone ever heard of it?

I live in Spokane Valley but do all of my boating so far exclusively in Idaho. Coeur d'Alene is about 20 or so minutes from the house. We have boated there but tend to go up to Priest Lake a bunch more. We spend lots of 3 day weekends at Priest. When I have just a day or so I go to CD. It is a lot more crowded and no beaches to pull up on and let the kids out to swim or camp(or none that is that I know of). Guess everything is pretty much private owned. I say I guess since I do not have much experience or knowledge of CD. I went a while back with a buddy of mine and we launched at Sunup bay and pretty much stayed north up to the resort and Carlin Bay. Spent a weekend at Carlin Bay on our friend's boat...oh, I drank way too much that night. From what I remember there was a live band until about 1a or so..the bar was open until about 2am....Then we staggered back to the boat. Well, guess you can figure out the rest. Boy, it was fun! It is nice for a day trip though.
