could post in a number of subjects??? picked here.
'70 merc 1150, 72 seasprite 16' mod v hull.
heavy girl at 1050lbs. dry, not to mention motor & acccs.
really don't want to use the 115hp 4 trollin,
she's much happier running max rpm's.
so looking at a kicker (backup/safety) or a
much cheaper solution, a trolling plate.
do these plates allow a decent rpm on a bigger
motor? any feedback/experience is appreciated.
thanks,
M.Y.

Re: kicker or troll plate

It seems not a lot of people on this board use them. But the ones that do, generally like them, particularly the ones you have to manually raise to go fast. They say they work better.

I thought about one for my motor most of last year, but decided on a kicker instead. One reason is that my motor tends to carbon/foul the plugs with extended low rpm use, and the plate does nothing to help this situation. Second is the safety factor of being able to get home if the main motor would fail. Third, I can use the kicker on my smaller boat also.

I probably would have tried the plate if I had a 4-stroke. But I bought a Merc from the iboats motor page.
