Hello Kitimat. You might want to consider a four
stroke motor for your boat perhaps 9.9 or 15hp.
You wont have to mix oil and gas, you could tee
of your main motor fuel line and avoid that hassle
I see you spend time near my old stomping ground.
I grew up in Terrace and have fond memories of the
Kitimat River and the Skeena. Welcome to the forum.

Kitimat
I have a 21 foot Aluminum closed bow runabout and use a 15 hp Kicker with a long shaft and high thrust prop. On my boat this is barely enough to turn boat into waves or strong winds. When I replace mine I leaning to the new 20 hp honda 4 stroke that weighs 103 LB. My motor is on a lift bracket that I modified by putting together two 20 hp lift brackets.

On your boat I would look for a 25 HP extra long shaft if you go in the ocean. I think for ocean a good kicker is a must. In fact if both my motor do not start we would not go out until fixed.

Welcome to the board

Amen to that Boatist
I have a 21'boat with a 9.9 4-stoke Merc.
Okay for trolling but it can't get me up the Fraser river when there is a run off.
Wish I had got the 15Hp.
Your lift bracket sounds real interesting more info would be nice.

Davie

Bravefart
Lift braket very simple really. I used two Garlick lift brackets rated for up to 20 hp. Both brackets slide into a adapter that allow you to remove bracket. Mounted as close together as would fit. Took the Wood motor mounting board off each and made a new wider board that cover both brackets to tie together. Then the relese lever I took a peice of 3/4 inch pvc sched 40 plastic pipe and ran between levers. Ran a stainless steel 3 foot long screw 1/2 inch I think thru the pvc pipe. Used 4 stainless steel nylon lock nuts to bolt to relese levers 2 on the outside just to make double sure does not come off. Been on boat over 10 years now. I think same brakets now come with and plastic motor mount instead od wood.
Hope that makes some sence.
