Just Got Her Out of Storage

Hey guys, my bass boat was put in storage in September and I fully charged my three trolling motor deep cycle batteries. I got it home today and the batteries fully charged in about three to four hours of charging at 2 amps. I probably screwed up by not keeping the batts at home and charging them once a month but I can't change that fact. In any event is it possible that they are ok and actually only needed that brief of a charge or am I likely in trouble? I know that seven months is a long time for them to sit. :(

Re: Just Got Her Out of Storage

Deep Cycle batteries can be charged at up to 20% of their rated capacity so there is no reason to trickle charge them. Get them charged using a higher rate. That's what autoamtic smart chargers are for. If the charger itself showed full charge then they are probably ok. The only way you will know is to either have them load tested or splash the boat and go fishing.

Re: Just Got Her Out of Storage

Just FYI, I put my boat away around the end of October and about a month ago (Feb) I thought of putting the battery charger on. The charger indicated fully charged on both the deep cycle and starting battery in about 30 seconds. I live in the frozen zone but my boat is garaged and never gets below about 45 deg f . In past years, the result has been about the same, i.e. relatively little discharge over winter.
