Just picked this up on Saturday, Needs a new interior, motor and a good washing. ( maybe some paint too, not to sure of the snot green LOL)
I was told it was a 1970. Acording to the plate a max hp of 85 can be on there. I was wondering what would be the smallest I should go basiclly going to use the boat for fishing and maybe some tubing. Wolud love any more info on this boat if possilbe too

Im not to far from Hammond. Im near Plymouth right off US30 and US31 . I only have two kids and a wife LOL the dog stays home, he's too big. Have you ever pulled a tube with that 50? Im gonna try and get some better pics up. Those were the ones I had to show the wife before we bought it.

no i havent pulled anything with it yet, i just got it this summer and found some damage in the keel so while waiting on a welder i stripped it down and have been restoring it but im confident that 50 would sling the kids around on a tube or prolly even pull em on ski's

I'm going to agree with you about the green. IMO, the white with the blue is much more attractive.:D

If you don't have a motor, look for a good used motor at or near the rated limit. They can always be throttled down. There is little or nothing to do to increase the performance of a smaller motor. However, you can tow stuff with a smaller motor, it just has to be propped right. That will necessitate two props, one for speed and the other for tubing, etc.

It's a 135 hp Evinrude. I found it on a boat back in a field with weeds growing up around it, unloved. The boat, trailer, and motor came home with us for $350. The trailer was sold for $250 and we had to pay $40 to the landfill for crushing the boat. Although we have $600 in the motor, it is good value for what we ended up with.

I had a 16-foot SS for a few years. When I first got it, it had a blown 65hp Merc 3-cylinder on it. I had a running 35hp on the rack, so that went on it for a couple months 'til I found a larger motor. The 35hp did alright with one or two people on board. I don't think it would have done much more than dragged a tuber through the water - not over the water. The 75hp 3-cylinder Johnson I bought to power the boat was a perfect fit - good combination of fuel efficiency and power.
