today, for the first time since Fall, I have fishin'<br />across the street Knowlesville, NY on the<br />Erie Canal, home for MY. <br />drained annually, and re-filled locally from the<br />niagra river to my west, and the Genesee river to<br />my east. always a good diversity of fish.<br />current MY records from canal:<br />LM bass 3lb<br />SM bass 4.5lb<br />N.pike 6lb<br />Crappie 1.5lb<br />Carp 11lb<br />Sheepshead 7.5lb (mepps)<br />channel cat 12lb<br />Musky nothin'<br />Walleye 6lb<br />also catch: silver bass,& bluegill/sunny. all under a pound...<br />caught 2 x 1/2lb. rockbass, and a 2lb chennel cat.<br />funny part, caught the cat on a Mepps!<br />MY official start of the local fishin season...<br />about dang time!<br />today was a good day!

What is a Silver Bass? I dont guess that we have those down here.

The silver bass may be what we call white bass, or maybe not.<br /><br />I'm impressed with your smally.<br /><br />So they drain it, then fill it up. How long till the fish move into the canal? Are there a lot fish stranded in pools and back waters when they drain it?

the erie canal actually goes "uphill" as it winds<br />east, so they have locks all along the canal to<br />keep water level. the fish just swim in and out<br />with the water when it's filled/emptied. very<br />few pools or landlocked fish after it's drained.<br />niehbor accross the street worked for the state<br />on the canal for many years. he tells a story<br />when they dredged a certain pool they scooped up<br />about 5 10lb walleye.... but you know how those<br />stories go <br />think silver bass are same as whitebass. usually<br />smaller than sm/lm and kinda look like an all<br />silver crappie.

If nothing else Mellowyellow someone gots to get you fixed up on some gator hunting. Believe me once you hook onto one of this hogs fishn won't quite be the same again. Aren't you going gator huntn sometime this year?<br /><br />Better start training now before you go. Casting for these hogs can be brutal and depressing. I think they say for every 1,000 or so casts may produce one maybe. Myself fast troll is the way to go and you see more scenery.......

MY..do a little research on ernies. I use them alot trolling but grandma lures are also in my tack. Many of my musks are caught trolling at a good clip when the water starts to warm up. Some year got to get up on leach and do some tiger huntn with me. Neummans and I are going to try and hook up this June since he is only a stones throw from the homestead.....

you talkin minn. gonfishin? sounds fun!<br />between lk erie, niagra river, lk. ontario,<br />the finger lakes plus a few more nice local<br />lakes all within an hour, it's tuff to justify<br />going elswhere. usually plan a trip to 1,000<br />islands every year too.<br />so many fish, so little time

hey mellow you might want to try the Moira system it usually will caught up about a dozen 45inch plus a year
