A 1977? Winner Wildcat/120 OMC I/O that has its console stripped of all electrical. There is no ignition either. I hooked up a good battery and tried to jump the starter selenoid but nothing happened. I tried to power up the blower motor as well and nothing. I tried the tilt motor and nothing. Am I missing something? <br />Thanks

Is there a kill switch somewhere still intact?<br /><br />One of my boats has an 'operator present' switch, or whatever you call them, i.e. 'kill switch'<br /><br />My Merc won't let me start in gear either.<br /><br />Did you try these components completely isolated from everything else?<br /><br />H.

Re: Jumpering starter and trim/tilt

Thanks for the returns. I did try direct power to the starter and the tilt, with no results. I'm assuming since the alternator was seized then the starter is probably as well. I'm going to pull the whole engine out and get it on an engine stand and pull off the pan and cover to check it out. Then hopefully I can get a working starter to crank over the engine to check the compression.

it sounds to me like you might have a sunk boat situation. whether it was sunk in the water, or on the trailer. before you try bench starting the motor, check for internal obstruction. water, rust or forien matter in the cylinders. if any of these is present, i suggest a complete tear-down.

Thanks azboatman that's probably the situation. The boat has been exposed to the elements for some time and I never really figured that every moving electrical device could seize up like that but that seems to be whats happened.I was able to get the alternator moving again by force but I was thinking that the starter would move by applying voltage directly to it, but I guess its seized to badly. I can see whats coming now with the engine internals. Ugh.<br />I can't believe that my posting is still getting replys. This is one well read and informed forum.
