I just got this motor to go on my 62 Sea Sprite walk-thru runabout. <br /> The boat has a rack and pinion steering system but all I have is the bracket for the pulley system.<br />How would I go about finding what I need or should I just try to fabricate a bracket?<br />Thanks in advance.<br />Joe

Thanks DJ but I didn't see what I need there. Perhaps I wasn't clear as to what it is exactly that I need.<br /> The steering system is complete except for the bracket on the motor that hooks to the steering arm.'<br /> Everything lines up good but need the bracket that goes on the motor.<br />This is an electric start remote motor with no tiller.

Teleflex uses PN SA27198 to connect their steering system to old Johnny/Rudes:<br />

<br /><br />As you can see, it's pretty simple. At the end of the cable is a clevis than gets bolted to this little bracket. And the bolt in the picture goes through the hole on the 'handle' of the outboard. If you see what they charge for it, you might want to make your own.<br /><br />Hope that describes it!

Hey key4 rocket. Do you have a steering tube at your transom? I just converted my 40HP '63 Evinrude from a cable & pulley system to a Teleflex NFB rack & pinion system. Sounds like you may need the steering tube for the cable end to run through at the transom. Not sure about your motor but I had to cobble together parts from Teleflex and a transom mount steering tube, link arm and clevis manufactured by T&R Marine to get the right combo. You can find the parts you need here: http://www.trmarine.com/cat.html Just click on the link and then go to "Steering & Mounting" and then "Mounting Kits" and then "Clamp Mount Kits" and then go to the link for "This kit fits under engine clamps". You may find a dealer in your area that has the parts. If you don't find anybody post back and I'll direct you to a dealer.

Grain Boat, thanks for turning me on to that. That's a lot nicer than the cheezy transom mount system Teleflex uses. Too bad it doesn't seem to be available in stainless though. Perhaps I'll have to rip off their good idea. :D

You're in good company with that outboard. There are several of them owned by members here, ranging from 1959 on through the 60s. If you have trouble with it, you'll probably find someone here who has had the same problem and solved it.
