the motoer is 1968 4 cyl 65 hp<br />when i say bachfires what it does is spit out of exhaust hole loud popping souncould it be carbs timing or rings <br />it is on a old 16 foot runabout have 20 chysler dose okay<br />not a speed boat but okay for wher we fish<br />thanks for any help u can give<br /> jim

AHA!! Your engine actually weighs more like 350 pounds. The spitting/backfiring is probably from fuel starvation. Try squeezing the ball pump when this happens. If she immediately behaves you are not supplying enough fuel. This trouble could be in the tank, tank pickup, fuel lines, ball pump, fuel pump or a carburetor. Careful examination may find the trouble, substitution of parts will help. Let me know what you find out.<br /><br />JB
