JB,

Is it me, or does it seem that more and more of us (me included) are throwing live grenades "over the wall" just to see what happens?

Are we all just bored or in some kind of "funk"?

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Have you read the latest yamaha relief posting in the outboard section? It looks very similar to the "what is this crap charge from my mechanic" posting that got everyones blood boiling including mine.. My fear is that these mechanic vs. customer strings will run-off the mechanics and also run off some of the good shadetree posters that actually help others. I refused to post on the yamaha topic b/c I dont think either side will change their minds and both have good points... we just dont need to let these things fester in my opinion... can anything be done? how bout' some wisdom and guidance from my admirals!!!
 And JB, you can put a stop to the pissing contests by locking the posting up when it gets confrontational right? I know that stinks, but I dont want all the guys to leave. I am not by anyway trying to put blame on you JB for not stopping it. I think everyone should take more responsibility for their actions/words, but it may take stopping some of these strings before it hurts the boards as a whole. sorry for the long post... Beaux

Beaux,

Those two posts are precisely the reason why I posted the new topic.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Sorry, guys. I haven't looked in on the Yammy thread. I will.

I was so encouraged by the courteous exchanges of views on the Security vs. Freedom thread that I thought it wouldn't hurt to try the tournament issue.

It is my intention to keep this site an exchange of information and a courteous exchange of ideas. I have deleted some insults and frozen some mainly good threads that threatened to turn into wars. That is what Admin5 asked, and that is what I intend to do. I do have a problem with insults directed at me. It seems unfair to delete or freeze them. What do you think?

Thanks for the heads-up on the Yammy thread and please jerk my chain if you see something that needs attention.

:)

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

JB- I read the string that I think you are referring to that was an attack on you for simply giving advice on your views on VRO.... I understand your dilemna... Someone should stand up for you(in an adult fashion) and then you wouldn't have to be "administrator" with all the power....HMMMMMmmmmmmmm...i think i have an idea! :D and thanks Djohns...I agree with you and figured that is what you were talking about. its tough....if you comment, you fuel the fire..if not, then it goes forever. I am glad I am not the only one.

JB,

Personally, I can see absolutely no reason for personal insults or jabs. That is not needed here and adds nothing to the thread. I think many of the others would agree that you should "edit" them.

We're supposed to be adults here and we should be able to act so. I like to make my comments reflect precisely what I would say to you or the others as if we were standing face to face. I do not like the idea of slinging arrows while sitting anonomously behind a keyboard.

Djohns,I agree.Seems like as of late the outboard forums has become a clash of opinions that deviates so far from the original topic that refereeing the event has become a precedent.

JB, the good part of this board is it is not a flame board. I do think that you have every right to freeze a post if it starts insulting you or anyone else. This board will only be around as long as it helps people. Good natured discussion is fine especially in this part of the forum.
I believe people need to be reminded that this is a free help board in no uncertain terms and that a tight rein needs to be kept. People can go other places if they want to start slamming. The lets sue Force post was over the top, but not many people bit on that. It would be a shame to see the dealers and mechanics go.
JB, what ever your decision, we are behind you.

YOU DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just spent 15 minutes writing an intelligent non-threatening rebuttal to someone on your behalf, only to find it closed when I submitted it!!! :D you were right, i know what you are thinking, it would have just had the effect of trying to fight a fire with JETFUEL instead of h20! :p
oh well, you got me JB.... but it would have been good! ;) Beaux

I'll second that! I just posted my best of all
time boat/repair story, and it's a good one too...
now none of you guys will hear it... bummer!
censorship is a 2 bladed sword, kinda like freedom
of speech...
the way to deal with a grenade is to get outa' dodge!!!!

Being an innocent bystander (never even looked at the Yamaha thread but did comment in the other), I'm wondering if we aren't expecting too much from JB.

From JB
Sorry, guys. I haven't looked in on the Yammy thread. I will.

Do we need more moderator's? One's with varied interests who will naturally read different boards?

As an aside, I do notice other boards seem to get these winter growlies as well. Fishing guys can't fish, 4 wheelers can't wheel so they just kinda vent elsewhere. Hopefully it is all good natured.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

i'll be careful with what i say, to hopefully prevent censorship or deletion of my account...

what's up with locking the topics? i personally enjoy reading the different views on vro/pre-mix, as well as the dealer/manufacturer issue. now we can't talk about it any more. and god forbid someone asks the question again without using the almighty search function first...

matttt,

It is a dilema. No question.

I just think that being uncivil is not needed here.

If someone wants to flame someone, do it somewhere else. Disagreements can be aired without personal insults. Newcomers to this board might look at us as just a bunch of !@#ching whiners.

tacklewasher,

Maybe you nailed it "winter growlies". :D

It's all that cold weather setting in. :D

P.S Personally I think it's Moose that's causing all the problems. lol. Ever since he has come back everybody has gotten all fiesty. Just Kidding Moose and a happy 100th post again to ya. :D

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Sorry you feel that way, MelloYellow.

I really want guys to explain their points of view without interfering, but if I think they are just flaming one another, well, that's the end of it.

I don't think anything is learned from watching a couple of reasonable, intelligent guys making jerks of themselves.

I remember when CB radio was gentlemen talking with gentlemen, too. I wonder what it would be today with a little discipline demanded.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

What was up with that guy on Oil Injection JB? I mean come on. We all are adults here even Sloopy! This board was here to give people ideas and help with there boat for free. Any free advise is good advise in my book. Everybody on the forum needs to quit making personal remarks and just state there opinion about the subject and not about what how bad someones advise is or how stupid or wrong the are. Let the person who wrote the original post make up his own decision who he wants to believe.

J.B I think you do a great job at moderating this board. If they don't like it let them post somewhere else where they feel they are on a pedestal. We are all equal in here.

Hey Admin5 what do you think about all of this negative crap. I've seen you ban people for a lot worse.

Can't we all just get along? :D

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Leave Ib for a few days miss everything. Maybe I'm outa line here or don't understand the jist of whats going on, but how can you kill a thread before its born. If it gets outa hand then I agree, shoot it.

If I post something thats outa line all of you will let me know, but to have one person decide if its American or not is not fair.

If I'm wrong JB I apoligize but are you saying that if you don't like a certain thread you are going to kill it without any input from the rest of us?

Its going to be a long Winter and no fishing so lets vent fairly until it gets outa hand.(my opinion of course)

I thought I lived in America. You know, the place with all them "rights".
I can't help it, but if I want to say something, I will.
If the people can't stand the heat, then they can get out of the oven.
I have got a lot of good advise while I have been on here, and I have seen some jerks also, but hey, thats what makes this America.
I'll shut up now before I get banned.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Jb, I agree...you are doing a good job. I think the issue remains not calling people names in a boating forum about outboards/inboards/boats/fun. Why would you ever need to direct your negative comments answering a question at someone else who already posted. Just simply type your answer and try and explain it in a simplistic enough way for the person who asks the question to understand that you are right.... here is an example.... link to post . I think you will see that several posts suggest different solutions, but noone had to rub it in if they thought they were right and someone was wrong. And if you notice, the original poster was still able to figure out what to do... no anger,no pissing contest, no name calling, no assumptions about intelligence, etc. That is how these forums work when noone gets on a high horse. Thanks taking the time to read this...... I really do enjoy this forum! Beaux
