Hi first I'd like to thank every body who took time to read my post thanks!
I'm looking into buying a 1984 Islander 28 Ft sailboat
I was told buy the lady selling the boat. That they were built for ocean sailing - and are much more sturdy boat... than a typical Hunter, Catalina and other production boats. First is this true or not????
She's offering the boat to me for About $6.000 Has trailer actually it's on the trailer. It comes with an inboard diesel. I think this is a good deal but would really like some input from people that are in the boating world more then i am at this point in time.

Here are the problems that need to be fixed. It is a project boat from the standpoint that it needs a new floor (cabin sole). The boat was originally in a dispute from an estate and sat which allowed water to get in and it softened and deteriorated the floor. Also the port holes have to be replaced as you will clearly see when i post pictures of the boat & the water damage.

What I'd really like to know is how much time & money do you all think it would take to get her back up to tip top shape???

The pictures of the water damage i have are all to big to attach to this post.
If any body has any ideas on how i can show you the damage please email me or post here ok thanks ALot

Copy and past the image into Paint (assuming you are a pc and not a mac) Then on the menu bar click "Image" then click "Resize/Skew" or it may say "Stretch/Skew" then in the top two boxes type in any number less than 100. start with like 75. That is 75% of the original size. Keep doing that untill it is small enough then save and attach.

To be honest, I am a newbie at boating all together, and especially at sail boats, but I think that if you are able to post some pics, some of the more experienced folks here could be of help. Even if they are just power boaters.

Every question I have ever needed assistance with was quickly answered on www.trailersailor.com and if thats not enough, I believe the other good sailing site is www.sailnet.com

Post your questions there and you should receive more than enough help.

Good Luck!

Catalinas aren't for ocean sailing? She had better tell that to the people with boats 22 to 40 feet so they won't get hurt huh. I own a 22 ft cat and have sailed off the coast of Washington in a 25 ft cat with friends (wish I can get one, alot more room), heck I guess we weren't very smart, yeah right. I like projects sometimes but would pass on that boat.
