Is water from here normal?

I believe this is called the lower mounting bracket cover, I'm not sure if this is normal or not (it's coming from the cover)

You are using Faucet pressure and this can force water to flow past the seals various. Use a barrel and allow the water pump to do its job. If there is a bad pump it will show through a bad pee stream and motor getting too warm. If this happens shut the motor down and address the pump problem

If the arrow is pointing to the cover with 4 bolts, that is the lower motor mount cover. Water could be getting out through the hole that locates the pin of the mount.

Yes that’s where it’s coming from, is this cause for concern?

I suggest you make sure exactly where it is coming from. There are large drain holes on the forward edge of the exhaust housing, behind those mounting parts. It is absolutely normal for a considerable amount of water to come out those drain holes, especially if running on high water pressure/muffs. It is water that has escaped from the water pump, through the hole that the drive shaft passes through.

Yes, a worn water pump impeller or bad pump housing seals can increase the flow out the drains. So, we cannot make a reasonable judgement from here, how much is normal. It does seem an awful lot of water in the picture.

So it won’t hurt anything if I pop that cover and hook it back up to muffs?

Won't hurt a thing. But on most motors you can see those big drain holes by looking down through the gaps.

Probably not your exact model, but most OMC motors newer than 1980 and over 30hp will have some variation of this layout.

I backed it into the lake today to test it submerged with no pressure and I had water coming out the same spot (under lower mount cover), water pressure was still really good. I’m assuming this means something isn’t sealed up right in lower unit?

I also looked for a drain hole and didn’t see one (but there’s not much you can see in there). There is a weep hole just under the lower motor mount for sure I just can’t visually see one behind it

What is the model number of your motor? I don't gamble, but if I did, I'd sure like to make a large bet that there are drain holes back there.

Not intimately familiar with your particular model, but this is probably the drain hole. This is the drawing for your model.

Really, if there is any doubt about the integrity of the water pump impeller you should change it out anyway. That is normal maintenance.

I did just change the impeller/pump housing. I have really good water pressure right now which is why I’m confused as to what could be wrong with it.

Ah, so you have been into it. Now the question begs to be is the #61 grommet in place on top of the pump? If not, that certainly can cause excessive flow from the drain holes we've been discussing. That is water that has already gone through the powerhead and is now supposed to be filling and cooling the exhaust housing instead of just falling out of the drains.

Also, I don't know what happens if #81 o-ring is missing.

#61 is definitely in place, and I was under the impression #81 went under the impeller right up tight to the wear plate (at least in all the tutorials I have seen). Also on a boats.net diagram I saw there was one more O-ring above #61 but I assumed that was the o-ring that was at the top of the drive shaft just under the splines.

If I had to guess I would say my large O-ring that goes inside pump housing got knocked loose when putting it over impeller (I did use adhesive like it said) or maybe I wasn’t suppose to put #81 directly on top of wear plate .

The o-ring above #61 does go at the top of the drive shaft. I'll let somebody else clear up the matter of #81 because I'm not familiar enough with this particular model.

Grommety thing # 82 in place ?

I replaced that as well. I double and triple checked everything before I put it all back together because I had to pull the bottom carburetor to get to shift rod pin and I knew I didn’t want to have to do it all again. Obviously if this is an issue I’ll pull it again and double check my seals/o-rings. I just wasn’t sure if water coming from behind lower mounting bracket was either normal or a problem and I didn’t want to pull everything apart again until I asked considering I have Great water pressure right now.

As I tried to say before, water coming out there is normal. The only question is if it is excessive or not. The picture looks like a lot of water, but it is hard to judge from that. It might be perfectly OK.
