Is this oil pressure normal?

Mercruiser 1.7 turbo diesel 2007. Two different gauges. I have changed oil pressure sender. The needle jumps a lot.
What could cause this? Sometimes it stays on 0 for a few minutes before it goes to normal. No smoke or other strange noises. Engine runs fine.

Oil level seems to be over maximum. Will remove some to see if that fixes the problem

Looking at that dipstick, I read it as you are way low on oil. Dipstick should be covered, not just that bottom edge, which may just be residue in the dipstick tube and not actual level.

Oil is above maximum mark. It should be between. I had the dipstick outside engine a few hours before putting it im to avoid residue from dipstick tube.

I see where the marks are and there is no oil on the dipstick up at those marks. Or did you wipe the oil off the top part of the dipstick where the marks are and leave it on the bottom edge only?

What marks do you see?

I see two clearly pictured detents on the dipstick. Both are obviously covered with oil indicating the oil pan is overfull

Is there something about diesel engine crankcase oil monitoring you know that others don't?

I just bought the boat. I will empty one litre tomorrow to see if oil pressure gets better.
I really dont hope there is diesel in the oil, but I cant smell it or see it on the paper I wiped.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... Ya might wanta check the electrical connections on the oil pressure sender, 'n gauge for corrosion, 'n whatnot,...

I have tested with a new gauge. The oil pressure sender is new.
Will try to put a new wire from sender to gauge.

All I am saying is if that dip stick went into oil, it would be covered, not just on just one edge. Did you wipe it off prior to taking photo is all I was asking. If you did, that explains the clean side w/ the marks and level is high. If you did not wipe it off, you are low on oil

Bad earth at the dash…or sender wiring…or possibly blocked.
Keep and eye on that turbo and in particular…the timing belt. Famous for needing scrapped after an undue belt failure. Make sure it’s changed immediately if unknown and before the recommendation on interval, I’d advise, if known. Absolutely their worst trait. Turbo elbow can cause issues too.

Thanks. Will be hooking up a multimeter to see what wire causes the failure, either the sensor cable, +12v or ground :)

Measure 9V on the oil pressure gauge. When the gauge stops working the multimeter shows 16V. Very strange.
Maybe I just should disconnect 12V + and - and just hotwire from the neighbourinstrument?
