I am getting ready to install a high speed water pickup and salt water washdown system( Groco Hi-speed strainer GRO-sth-750w) I just rebuilt my transom. I hate drilling any screws into new marine plywood, regardless of adding 5200 to the drilled holes. I could bolt the bronze pickup on some SS flat stock and bolt the stock onto the fiberglass bottom of my boat near the stern close by the drain. I could then attached 3/4" hose outside transom and bring hose into boat about 2' above water line and seal around connections with 5200. Or, I could attached pickup to ss trim tab and run hose into the boat? I have never seen a water pickup on a trim tab. Perhaps this is not a good idea. Attached is diagram with two options. I do not have sufficient bilge are to mount water pickup inside boat. For now, I expect the SS flat stock option is the best.

I wouldn't do either, just looks like problems. Don't think the trim tab could take the load and the keel just doesn't look good.

They make transom mounted water pickups.
