Hi there, just bought a 1968 29 Islander, the boat does not have a fuel gauge, the engine is an atomic 4 inboard gas. I would like to install a gauge but I am not sure how involved it is. Any suggestions?

Re: Install a fuel gage

I'd think the biggest issue would be mounting a sending unit in the tank. Particularly if it does not have a 5 screw cutout. I suppose one could safely cut a hole in a plastic tank - just not with power tools. Gauge wouldn't be hard to wire. Again, will need a suitable spot and cutout - as with the sending unit. Does your fuel tank have provision for sender installation?

Here's a complete kit with PDF instructions. Should help you decide if you want to tackle it.

I agree, if you decide to go ahead, I'd go with the Teleflex kit. A name that's synonymous with boating.

Thank you! I was looking at a new tank option as well, after inspecting my current one, it seems fine, I will definitely go with the kit.
