I NEED HELP, I JUST BOUGHT A BOAT WITH A VOLVO PENTA IN-BOARD. I NEED SOME HELP UNDERSTANDING WHAT MAKES THE TRANSMISSION WORK, WHAT TYPE MAINT. NEEDS TO BE DONE TO IT AND THE STUFFING BOX AREA. ALSO I HAVE A WHINE AT LOW SPEED FROM THE STUFFING BOX. IS THAT NORMAL? ALSO IS THERE ANTY BUSHINGS / BRGS. ON THE DRIVE/PROP SHAFT? I HAVE SOME SIDE PLAY WHERE THE SHAFT ENTERS THE HULL. ... gtaylor:<br /><br />Can you provide more specifics on the transmission itself? Make, model, straight or V-drive. With this additional information you should be able to get some advice on care and feeding of the transmission.

There should be no play in the propshaft.. Should be rock solid... There is a bearing (cutless bearing) in the strut.. It's a vulcanized rubber insert inside of a sleeve press fit into the strut..
