I have an '98 Evinrude 115 SP. I recently hooked up a RayMarine fishfinder that shorted something out on my boat. Now, even though I have disconnected the fish finder and all its electronics, when I turn on the switch, the onboard "circuit breaker" next to the ignition swith "trigggers" and of course the boat wont start. I have tried a new ignition switch and the same thing happens. While troubleshooting the ignition switch, I noticed that if I disconnect the two purple wires going from the switch to the main wiring harness on the engine, the circuit breaker does NOT throw and the engine turns over. However, without the purple wires the engine will not start. Anyone know what those purple wires on the modula wiring system go to or what could have possible shorted out? I have tried disconnecting just about everything on the boat and still the same result. Thanks.....

Re: Ignition Problem....

Hi SP.....the purple wires are the ignition or hot wires that power up the electronics on the engine. The engine should crank with out these wires connected at least. I would check the engine over real close for any wires that may have been burnt from over amperage surge. Don't have a print in front of me so I'm going from gray cells here. Is all the boat electronics disconnected? Horns, lights and all that jazz? Trying to narrow it down here.
