Hi,

I recently bought an old Starcraft and stumbled onto this forum while researching how big a motor it can handle.

I never realized that these boats had such an enthusiastic following.

I would like to know what model of Starcraft this is, as well as the HP it can handle comfortably and its weight. I would appreciate it if someone could help me.

It is about 15'4" long with a 64" beam, a 18" high transom and a shallow V shaped bottom.

It leaks a bit more than I like and is cosmetically rough, but it has been kept in good mechanical repair. It has spent many years in salt water.

Jan, any idea of the year and a better pic of the bottom half of the stern would help.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

There isn't any indication of the year on the boat but it seems a lot like some boats from the 60's posted here.

I've gone out fishing on the saltchuck a few times this summer in it, and it rides nicely on a light chop, but bounces a lot on the bigger stuff and it is definitely under-powered with the 20HP Evinrude. Four people and an afternoon worth of seepage in the bottom of the boat and it has trouble getting on the plane.

Here are a couple more pix.

I would imagine it would take a 50HP just fine.
