I didn't catch it, just found it washed up on the shores of NYC... never seen teeth like this before. Any ideas?

For all I can see, these are the teeth of a mammal, because they are seated on the jaw and from a different material than the skin surrounding it.Fish teeth are just a pointy and hardened extension of the skin and they are not separate or different from the skin.

What in tarnation is that mutated looking mess?? Wow! That was an ugly fish, even before it bit the dust. I am curious to see if anyone knows what it is/was.

Fish teeth have evolved from scales that covered the lips of primitive fish. They are made up of a bone-like substance called dentine covered with enamel. Like our teeth, they have a pulp cavity in the center containing blood vessels and nerves.

If it's not my ex-mother-in-law, then looks like a Sheepshead to me. They use 'em to chew the barnacles off bridge pilings.

That is just too interesting... I found this and it looks pretty close to the picture you posted, although it's in a whole lot better shape :)

It is (or looks like) a Sheepshead and you can catch them off the East coast of the U.S.

I believe that is a blackfish. Plentiful when the water is colder but it may have just drited in with the tide.

Won't bet on it, but how about a Trigger Fish. Extended jaws and tail look the same.

That is definately not a Triggerfish and one ugly set of chompers! Im thinking its a bottom feeding fish and it died of old age. the teeth look old and worn down. But I"m no expert.

Definitely not a blackfish. Most likely a sheepshead. They used to be all over the coast of NY and all of the bays, including, of course, "Sheepshead Bay". They're a rare catch these days... Have been for many years.

I believe Dingbat is right, its a Tilefish. If you google Tilefish it says they have cone shaped teeth and the carcass seems to have them too. I think triggers and sheepsheads teeth are chisel shaped.

Triggers and sheepshead have flat teeth like our molars for grinding hard shells.

I think that's a scrotum.

Use a 7/0 hook with a sand flea for bait.

Good eating, if you can get past the smell.
