weigh the boat, compare the specs. could be water logged foam, could just be the fact the boat is light, and without people, up front, that is how it normally sits due to the weight of the engine and drive.

to my eye it looks low in the stern. BUT, that could be due to a humongous engine in the boat and a very light bow. Out of curiosity what engine is in that thing? Keep in mind that a small block V-8 weighs in the neighborhood of 500-800 pounds dry, and big blocks weigh more than that.

if you have a little 4 banger or six in the boat, I would be looking for where the extra weight is

The V8 is only about 130 more than the 3.0 liter 4 banger

Looks wrong to me. Either the engine is very big, or the boat is waterlogged.

Compare the engine specs to what the boat should have. Then weigh the rig.

OK, will go to the weigh station. We bought the boat on FB. First time out the boat took on water. We needed to run the pump util we got back to the trailer. The man seemed honest, I hate to think of him selling us a leaking boat on purpose but 1st time out it took on a lot of water. The boat has records of being in a shop in October '21. The receipt says "water in lower half-ck seals, upper d'shaft seals bad-.002 shim N.G., had rust & wrinkle". Parts say "1 o'ring, 1 shim, 2 oil seals, gear oil". I doubt he had the boat on the water after the repair as this is in the NY Fingerlakes. Maybe something isn't connected right from the repair? He also said it was in for a water pump but don't see those records.

OMC 400 series, 140hp. If the leak is in the drive or water pump, would it be noticeable if we ran it with the earmuffs?

If the leak is in the cooling, then you should be able to see that on muffs.

With having to run the pump the entire time you were out, I'm wondering if you may have a leak at the transom boot. If it's relatively easy, put the boat in the water and get your head in the bilge and watch the water come in. See where it's leaking. If you're not running the engine, you can (mostly) rule that out as your major problem. If it's the boot that's leaking, it's a relatively easy problem to solve.

looks very low to me. Sounds like you bought without a sea trial. I just don’t understand why people do that.

Tried muffs to see if leaks. Nothing inside. Is water supposed to spray out like this?

As far as I'm concerned, most Stringers on muffs look like a porcupine of water. Did you confirm you were getting flow up by the engine? (or at least it stayed cool?)

Added water to inside of boat hull up almost to the plywood floor. 3 drip spots at about 1 drip/30-60 seconds. could that have caused 6" of water on the floor of the boat in an hour in the water?
