I need help with a part number or place to buy.

I purchased the bushings for the pivot pin on my trim cylinders online and the ones that the company sent me for my King Cobra outdrive are 3/4 inch and it would appear that mine are smaller at about 1/2 inch. Anyone know the proper part number for these smaller bushing and/or where I can buy them? Thank you for your help!

EDIT- The bushing and grommet I need is 5/8 after measuring, NOT 1/2 inch.

Re: I need help with a part number or place to buy.

No offense, but I wouldn't have posted the question had I not already done some research. Problem is my boat has a different engine in it than it came with. I can't use the engine number. It's a Four Winns Liberator that I'm pretty sure had a 351 when new, but now sports a 454 merc. It has a King Cobra outdrive, but I'm having a hell of a time finding what i need. After a LOT of phone calls and parts diagrams I finally found someone that wasnt a warehouse and he measured a part number for me. It's 910855. This IS the proper 5/8 bushing for my outdrive. The problem is that there is a rubber ring that goes around the bushing itself and creates the conical shape to butt into the cylinder. Without this "rubber band" it will just flop around in the hole. I can't for the life of me find it on a diagram with THIS part number.

The larger part number has it. The 3/4 size ones. It's easy to locate. On any outdrive schematic they are parts 61 and 68. These are the 3/4 ones that are too big. Any one that I've found that has the part number I listed above does NOT have the ring around it. This is the part number I need! I'm going crazy looking through all the diagrams hoping to come across it!

Anyone?

I don't think the smaller pivot pin used the rubber ring. Maybe the conical shape is already built into the bushing? I have both at home but I can't look for 3 more weeks, sorry. I just went through this on a Cobra (small pivot pin) to SX conversion (large pivot pin) Are the trim cylinders the original ones that go with the outdrive that you are using?

I can't promise you that the cylinders are the originals as I'm not the original owner. I DO know that they're slathered with "King Cobra" down the side of them, so they are the right part, but as for the year? Couldn't be certain. I found a website that had the grommet I was looking for and I'm going to take a shot that it's the right one. It's part number 0914719 and the description said "Fits on the pivot pin (trim/tilt cylinder shaft) between bushings". Looks exactly like what I have and with that description, it's about my best shot. Now the only question is whether that part number is for the smaller shaft or not. I hope so. If it is, I should be good to go.

HEY! This got me to thinking, when you were talking about your swap that you did. Is the King Cobra suPPOSED to have the 3/4 shaft? Maybe that's my problem. Maybe they replaced it with the wrong shaft???

EDIT. Noooo, never mind. I just remembered that I checked the larger bushings I already have in the outdrive itself and they were too big to fit inside, so that can't be the case. /shrug I guess I'll wait to see if this is the right part number.

Yeah. I have one of those Liberators that had a 1987 (460) King Kobra in it.....
(which I removed and replaced with a Merc 454 and Bravo III)

I feel your pain. You may or may not have the "real" King Cobra drive but you have trim cyls with the stickers on them. (I have those stickers too)
(OMC called a LOT of drives "King" but it really didn't mean much after 1989)

What you may have is a FrankenKobra that someone probably cobbled together from a bunch of parts......

You're just going to have to either replace shaft and bushings together or find (by trial/error) the "right" ones to fit what you have....

We get people here all the time that ask questions like you did and have never looked at anything.

Since you didn't give any information about the drive other than the name, it's impossible to know what you really have. OMC called 3 completely different drives "King Cobra" so how are we supposed to know which one you have?

Re: I need help with a part number or place to buy.

I'm at work unfortunately or I would look for a number on the actual drive. What I meant was that everywhere I was calling, looking and doing my research they were asking for an engine number. Unfortunately I can't provide that as it's not original. Can you tell me where the outdrive number would be located? I'll look tonight after I get home and post it.

OMC (BRP) parts lists are referenced by ENGINE number (that you don't have)

http://epc.brp.com

So when you find your drive number, you'll have to is go to the BRP site and look through EVERY engine model (probably 1990-1994 or so....) to find the lower housing number you have. Then look for the shaft/bushings for that model. Then you'll need to find a dealer that might have it collecting dust on the shelf.....

Good luck. This may be your "lot" in life locating some parts for it in the future.

Sorry about that.......:(
(sure glad I got rid of mine )

@ Don, I wouldn't swear to it without looking at the title, but I believe it's a '93.

The picture answered all my questions. Let me do some checking on your parts.
You do realize you can't even buy impellers for those drives anymore don't you?

Re: I need help with a part number or place to buy.

You are in luck, Volvo bought out OMC in 98, but never use the drive you have. But they did use those bushings and grommets in their original SX series drive. I have a conversion file, from OMC to Volvo part numbers, and your bushings are in it.
Items 52 and 56 in the link below are what you want. From here at iboat.

I'll check when I get home to verify, but I would swear those two part numbers you gave me were the ones I ordered and when they came they were the 3/4 inch ones. Like I said, I hate to speak too soon, but I would bet my bottom dollar.

Well you posted with no info and no numbers, and now say you tried the new numbers I came up with. Sorry I wasted my time on your problem. I won't bother you any longer.

Re: I need help with a part number or place to buy.

I don't understand your angst at me. I posted here in the hopes that someone MAY have run into the same problem I'm having finding the part number I was looking for. I did not post with no numbers and info.....

"After a LOT of phone calls and parts diagrams I finally found someone that wasnt a warehouse and he measured a part number for me. It's 910855. This IS the proper 5/8 bushing for my outdrive. That was certainly numbers AND info. As I said before, I had done some research and I've been looking at the same schematics that you have and it took me finding someone with the actual part in hand to go get a ruler and verify the right number I was looking for. I wasn't being snarky about your find, I was simply stating that I remember when I ordered from marineengine.com that when I looked up the number in my parts catalog it automatically cross referenced (the same as you just did) to what I believe right now without looking are the same numbers you gave me. These were the 3/4 inch ones that I already have 8 of and no use for.

You also stated - "they did use those bushings and grommets in their original SX series drive" and the gentleman before you posted "I just went through this on a Cobra (small pivot pin) to SX conversion (large pivot pin)". Now that either is a contridiction between the parts he has and your finding or the SX IS the large pivot and they are the ones I'm not looking for.

At no time was I ungrateful for any advice or help, so I apologize if I "wasted your time".
