I have 18/5 lowe fish and ski, 150 evenrude. my problem is it has a 29 gallon gas tank, I fill the gas tank and run about 8 gallons of gas, then it stops running. There seems to be no gas going to the engine. Then go fill it back up with gas and it does the same thing. Is there a float sticking in the tank? I have know idea. Couple days ago i drained over 20 gallons of gas out of it. thanks for any help.

sounds like the pick up tube might have a hole in it, if you take the pick up tube out take a good look at it, maybe even put some air pressure on it too make sure there are no leaks.you can also unhook the gas line from the motor an pump the primer bulb an see if gas comes out, that would be my 1st guess...........

The float in a gas tank operates the gas gauge. It has nothing to do with fuel flow. Remove the dip tube and I think you will find it has a hole in it at a point 8 gallons below full, or it is actually broken off at that point. The dip tube is the fitting at the top of the tank where the fuel line is attached. Attached to that fitting is a tube that extends to the bottom of the tank. If that tube has a hole or is broken off, it can only provide fuel until the fuel level reaches the hole or the break. At that point the engine can only suck air.

if it's not the tube (and I agree it probably is) it could be the vent, although a clogged vent would usually stop flow before 8 gallons

You need to inspect the tube that's inside the tank. That means unscrewing the plate in the top of the tank and pulling the tube out of the tank. It's being suggested that there's a hole or break in that tube about 1/3 of the way down from the top.

Good luck.
