Nothing good happens when you're short on time and in a hurry. I took the kids for a last minute fishing trip this morning. I backed down the ramp, unhooked the winch strap and jumped over the bow into the boat with an extra strong push to get the boat off the trailer,.....and instantly realized I didn't have the key. I know it's for situations like this that god created spare keys, but In 4 years I've never taken it out of the ignition, until last week. At least I remembered the plug!

Of course the wind was blowing away from the dock. Thankfully a jet skier pulled me back in. No fishing today. Argghhhhhhh!

Re: I hate keys!

Ok not exactly like your situation but kinda the same feeling...

Couple years ago I am pushing my new to me boat off the trailer, wife is behind the wheel of the boat(which did NOT help) and I give a big push thinking this is a bigger boat I need more oomph well this boat just flies off the trailer and I am now standing on the trailer off balance and as I am going into the water I start checking my pockets...

Cell Phone-Check
Wallet-Check
Copenhagen-Check
Truck keys with keyless entry Check and check(I also had the back up keys)

Hello water!!

Nothing worse than wet tobacco! I ended up jumping in, but I remembered to take the Griz out of my pocket first, unlike the last time I went water skiing.

keep a spare key hidden in the boat. For most boaters you can just leave one in the tool box, as drive-away boat theft is really not a big problem, if you don't leave the key in the ignition.

well, it would be a big problem for you but what I mean is that it doesn't happen often. Boats tied up at night are at some risk, but in the day time, I can't see someone going through your stuff to look for a spare key.

through the years I have had many a floating key holder fail. replace the "chain" with sturdy line and a good knot, or a cable tie.
