You talk in riddles Mercey. If you want to be provocative ,at least do so directly.

Mercey makes me laugh(more 'at' than 'with')... too bad he's leaving. Now I must find a new source of amusement; shouldn't be too tough.

Re: I Am Sorry For What I Have Said

I am half way through reading an excellent book called "We Were Soldiers Once....And Young" by Lt Gen Harold Moore (Ret) & Joseph Galloway.

It covers the first part of the Vietnam war and is written by guys who were deep in the thick of it (to say the least). It brings home the horrors of war in graphic detail. It is a stark reminder of what a terrible situation those soldiers were dumped into and what a ghastly situation it is when a country only half heartedly backs what it's armed forces are doing in a war.

Those soldiers were heros in the true sense of the word and yet were treated so badly by so many in their own countries.

I believe that the US & allied military and governments have learned the lessons of Vietnam. Never go into a battle half cocked. You must be in there 150% with absolutely overwhelming force - and this is what we have seen in all the battles since Vietnam I believe.

My prediction for this year is that the Iraq war will be short and sharp. The US and allied forces will hit them so hard and fast they wont know what happened.

Everyone will look back on the Iraq "war" (if you can call it that) in the same way as they look back on the war against Hitler. No question, it was the right thing to do.

My only hope is that as few innocent people and allied forces as possible get killed or hurt in what is about to happen. I have no doubt that failing to act will cause even more innocent deaths.

Sloopy, he is on record with some ridiculously inflamatory anti American rhetoric. Sometimes you get fed up with that stuff.

Re: I Am Sorry For What I Have Said

I saw mercy's post the other night and I agree with moose. The scary thing is there is a whole lot and I mean a whole lot of people in other countries and this includes the UK that think the way mercy does. They see America and Bush as very oppressive. They hate Americans. As far as they are concerned Bush is the next hitler. I love my country although I may not love some of the things the powers that be do.

Re: I Am Sorry For What I Have Said

Why in the world would you apologise, Mercey? I can sorta understand the moderator closing the topic as it can get just a bit out of control at times when the topic is so politically and emotionally charged, but then I thought the discussion was pretty dang civilized considering the topic.
But how can anyone say what Mercey said was anti-American? How can expressing an opinion in a public forum be considered anti-American? It is the essence of what it means to be an American, having and expressing opinions freely--or at least it was prior to Rush Limbaugh, at least.

John

Plywoody,

I'm not trying to censor him. He's got a right to say what he thinks and so do I. And to answer your question, from what I have read, he thinks we, as a group, as Americans, are a lot worse than just the bad guys. You might say anti us, anti American.
