I am at the end on my rope with trying to install my throttle and gear selection linkage at motor.

I have a quick silver commander control box, cables work good, not hard or seized. Put in neutral, hook up shifter cable, fine. Throttle cable barrel doesnt adjust enough to go on peg without moving the throttle forward. Anyone got any answers or suggestions.

Is the throttle cable still connected at the engine?
Yes
But the barrel wont adjust far enough so the throttle moves connecting it. And it says everywhere to make adjust to insert barrel without that happening.

Yeah, possibly an adjustment on both ends of cable?
With the cables disconnected at the motor,To figure out which cable is which it says to move the control arm of remote forward a bit and whatever cable starts moving first- that is the shifter cable. So I hook that up first no problems but then next is the throttle cable and as I said before the barrel wont adjust far enough for it to line up with the hole! If I switch the cables then for spome reason when I put the throttle cable on it can be adjusted to line up with the hole. But then my remote control handle doesnt go forward enough to take the motor past an idle.

disconnect from motor.
Open commander controls.
There may be several holes to connect cables to.
One will give cable a further out starting point.

The first to move, is the shift cable.

With control handle in neutral, and throttle cable disconnected from motor, and throttle connection on the motor set all the way to idle, adjust the barrel to fit in the hole while the end will slip onto the peg.

If I disconnect the throttle and shifter cables the motor starts on the first pull. If I hook up the cables I am unable to pull the starter rope handle, it wont move because Ive had to move the whole throttle assembly forward to line up the hole where the barrel goes.

Ive done what you wrote above but when getting to hooking up throttle cable the barrel doesnt adjust back enough to line up to hole. It runs out of threads!

so, is this the stock configuration that came with the boat?
or is this something being replaced?
if so, is there anyway the cable is wrong?

I bought a 1989 Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke and took off the tiller. I installed all the parts from my 1989 Mercury 20 hp 2 stroke. that I needed for remote controls. The control box worked fine on the 20 hp.

I have tried switching the throttle cable with the shifter cable at the motor and at the controls, nothing I do makes this work right! I am ready to just drive my boat with the cable sitting with me up at the steering wheel and just push and pull it from there without the control box.

I'm not on facebook. Is the throttle bracket on the 20hp the same as the bracket on the 25hp?.
I'm just asking, 'cause I'm not there....I would assume there is no difference, but I've learned to double check everything..

I'm seeing multiple configurations for the 25 hp motor. Including a remote control attaching kit..
I have no idea if this is your problem, but maybe look into it.
