Hunter 170 vs Catalina 16.5

I'm looking for a small sailboat with a swing down center board. I want to purchase a new boat since I don't have much time to recondition an older boat. 20 years ago I had an o day day sailer but I don't want to buy a 20 -30 year old boat. I would appreciate any comments about these boats. Thanks

There about as close to TIE as you could get with the hunter being a more modern design with a deeper center board as well as standard roller furling

The Hunter has a nice simple Asymmetrical Spinnaker kit which is easy to use compared to a pole Spinnaker

I would go with the one that had the most boats in my area BUt i like to race


And i have say that it is pretty hard to abuse boats this size to the point a used one would need much work or money

I just priced a new day sailer and ended up buying used for thousands less. There are a lot of them out there in very good condition.
