What I did was held the ramped part against the hose, then pulled it tight. I used a pair of pliers to pull it as tight as possible. Some of the hoses require the snap clamps instead, part no. 0322652 for the 5/16 clamps, and part no. 0322654 for the 1/4 inch ones. If ya keep having the leak, you may wanna try those.

Those zips are hard to tighten gotta hold the lock end while pulling on the tag end.I just use stainless hose clamps.

Hold a flat blade screwdriver against the clip part of the wire tie and pull the tag end with a pair of pliars.

Did you replace the fuel lines with 5/32 or 3/16 line? My '88 60hp calls for 5/32 in the parts diagram, unfortunately the diagram for your motor does not say what size it is. I used some 3/16 line and t's that I had lying around and it leaked like a siv, went to napa and bought all new 5/32 line and t's and not a drop.

Are you using the the zips that are contoured to the fuel line ? The regular zip won't work. You can get the fuel line zips at any BRP or Mercury dlr.

Boobie is right on. You have to get the special contoured ties.
I have replaced mine with the proper size gates adjustable ss clamps from a auto part store.

As you can tell, its all a matter of preference. The only thing you have to be careful with the stainless clamps is not to overtighten and crack the plastic

Seems like the 5/32" hose fits those fittings tight (not sure on your motor) and wouldn't even need a tie, and the tie just keeps it from being pulled off over the larger nipple when cinched on normally.. But if you're putting 3/16" hose on those same fittings, I can see why you'd have to reef the tie on to seal it tightly.

If you get the proper size hose from your Bomb. dealer they should not leak. Also you should be able to get a tie strap gun fairly cheap which will tighten and then cut off the excess.

Re: how to tighten the zip ties for fuel lines

I just looked up on the evinrude site and they actually do call for a 5/32 hose on there from the carb to the tee. Btw, last year I replaced my fuel lines, was told that the hoses were 3/8, so I followed the advice. Next thing ya know, I used the zip ties, had a leak, replaced it with 5/16 and it didnt leak......needless to say, the zip ties only hold it in place.

Re: how to tighten the zip ties for fuel lines

Ive scavenged all my sources and am only finding the plastic ones, I found the 3/8 size which is 0329653. This is the only clamp I can find that may be close is part #0982115, that may be the one you're speaking of

Is this for a restoration??

Call me ignorant, but I use worm style hose clamps.

Re: how to tighten the zip ties for fuel lines

As several have mentioned, the hose should not leak even without any clamps. The clamp is to keep it from pulling off. If the hose leaks, address the hose problem, and don't try to fix it with a clamp. Trying to fix a leak with a clamp is the wrong way to fix it, plain and simple.
