If you don't have the electrical harness attached to it, hook up a remote starter switch to the solenoid, hook up a gas tank, pull the choke manually and hit the starter switch. Don't rev it up past about 1500 RPM with no load on the engine. I would remove the prop for safty reasons. The only way to shut it down is to choke it down till it quits.

Dont forget a battery in that mix too :)

I built a test stand for testing motors, with built in key switch, solenoid, and test leads for various magneto/cutout switch variables. Although a bit overkill for one motor.

For a 135 hp just make sure your test stand is built sturdy enough.

Welders are cheap. Harbour Freight sells em for like $100 or so...

having tried to weld with one of those $100 flux core MIG guns before i dont think id have a 400LB outboard hanging from the welds they make -just doesnt burn hot enough .... now they have a stick machine thats pretty nice for 250 AND you could hook a tig rig up to it if you had a bottle of argon if you wanted to get really fancy

Re: how to bench run?

No, just pwer up the solenoid. The engine does not need external to power the ign system, it does that by itself.
