Re: how much to replace a timing chain?

Well without consulting a price book....I would guess less than $200 however....

Depending on the clearance in front of the motor to fit a puller, the gaskets and the mysterious unknown inside you might be getting into more $$. Since you are going "inside" it may be a good time to also change the camshaft seals and bearings too.

It may be more than a chain....the tensioner? Hope the gears are not chewed up either.

http://www.sterndrives.com/470information/470coolantleakrepair.html is a good link to replace the seals which are a "known" problem.

People are always "parting out" 470's so check e-bay for some less exspensive parts.

Bob
