How much Lower Unit Oil, 1964 Johnson 6hp

I changed my lower unit oil, but it hardly took any at all before I saw it coming out the top hole. Seems like it would take more than it did.<br /><br />Anyone have an idea of what volume my lower unit should hold? Thanks in advance!

Hi, <br />you have to add enough qty of oil that flow from the upper hole located at the lower unit. Please, identificate both holes in the lower unit of your engine. The lower hole you add the oil by using proper oil pump. Then you will see the upper hole by flow the excesive oil drain by the upper hole. my personal opinion is to use mobil 75W-90 gear oil.<br /><br />Thanks <br /><br />Carlos
