How many people fish the northern gulfcoast region? Such as FL,AL,MS,& LA. I am from Mobile, AL, and want to find some people who fish near me. Don't get me wrong I love reading all fishin' stories, but there is nothing like reading one that happened in your own backyard.

Re: How many....?

I fish the marsh in south central LA north of Vermilion Bay. Got a 1436 flatbottom so I stay very inland. Not as good water as SE Louisiana coast, but I like to get into those redfish and blue catfish!

Re: How many....?

I live in Mobile also. Went fishing this morning up and down Dog River and out in the bay by the river entrance and then went down the Theodore industrial canal.

The fishing was good early AM but soured quickly around 11AM.

I caught a slew of specs, 3 reds and 2 flounder using live shrimp for the flounder and specs and a buzz bait (bass lure) for the Reds.

Most of the specs were 17-19 inchers and I released them. Had 4 that I kept. Both the Flounder were keepers, the Reds I released as I don't particularly care for them. Most folks love Redfish just doesn't do it for me. I love catching them though... I have no problem catching anything and releasing it.

I don't eat Bass at all, but you can catch a ton of them in the rivers.

If the weather isn't too bad I'm going back in the morning

Re: How many....?

I live out of Bayou la Batre. Wife and I went out late (11 AM) 12/26 . Too much wind and LOOOW tide. Not good at all but we have not been out in a month. Good launch at the city docks. Bait shop avalable there. Usually the fishing is good early in the morning or late at night. We can fill our ice chest with keepers on average. Right now we have many gallon bags full of white and speck filats and one bag full of flounder.

Re: How many....?

Took my "new to me" Dawson 1600 out in Fowl river (mobile) this morning... got skunked.... I should have stayed in Dog River where I knew they were biting..

I put in at Pelican Reef (Fowl river marina) and saw several other boats down the river. Fish were moving everywhere, lot's of top water action, plenty of bait fish in the water but nothing was biting... Asked the other guys, same story... fish everywhere but nothing hitting bait.

Discovered the boat needs the other two carbs cleaned... cleaned the lower carb yesterday as I knew it was flooding from when I bought it (sat in the guys driveway for 3years and he obviously didn't drain them..)

Should have done it right the first time and cleaned all 3 of them..

Motor would only turn 4400rpm and should be running 5200-5800. 4400 was good enough for 25MPH so I figue it'll make 30-35 when it's running right.

That's as fast or faster than I want to go anyway.

So After some lunch and a good clean-up on the boat I'll be pulling the other two carbs.

Re: How many....?

Im in south La. , Chauvin La to be exact. I used to fish ecery weekend and 3 afternoons of the week, but I have slowed up some since the last storms. Reds and Speckled Trout are pretty much jumping in the boats right now, dont even need a pole!:D
Seriously, they are biting good right now, early mornings and late evenings, fish deep canals when its cold as...well cold. My last trip a few weeks ago landed 2 of us 34 specks, the smallest being 16 1/4 " and the largest being 20 1/2 and 3 1/4 lbs. All of this in 3-4 hours, with a boat ride so close to the launch we didnt even get on step ( nice when its 34 degrees).
Im off for 4 days starting New Years eve and if the rain holds out, I will be going all 4 days.Dave

Re: How many....?

I live in Silverhill, AL, on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay.

I caught 4 22" plus Sheapshead at Fish River reef last year in about 1/2 hour.
Then, off like a light switch.

At Dixie bar caught a 42" Red, took the picture and let it go for others to catch. We caught the bait fish off of Ft Morgan ramp with shrimp.

Reds and specks are caught in the river by Scotts Landing, and flounder too.

Stories of specks in the Intracoastal, but I have not had the luck there.

All for now, boat is about fixed and ready for the water.
