Hello I have 1972 Yates fiberglass Semi v-hull that I am making into a C/C. My question is how much space should I have in between the console and my back deck/seat. I like to stand up and drive most of the time. but on those long trips I would like to be able to sit down and drive.
The reson I am asking is because I am getting ready to install the floor and I need to know were my wiring and controls are going to come up threw the floor. I will get the answer to my wiring question when I find out were I am going to place my console.

So based on your experences how far apart should the center console and the back seat be ?
By the way I am NOTa big guy who needs lots of room. 6' 160lbs
TIA
Richard

I like the idea but I will be building the C/C and the back deck/seat later on. maybe I could use some boxes or something.

I was thinking 15" to 20" apart. I wait for more replys before I deside.

The front of my seat is 16" from the back face of the console. I am able to stand or sit comfortably at this distance.

if you are building the seat yourself, have you consider a retractable or folding seat, it give plenty of room to move around, and can be slid out, or folded up or down, to sit.

Mine is 17.5 inchs form the front edge of my seat to the console.....It is 14.75 from front edge of seat to foot rest.

I stand most of the time as well and I do like to sit on those long trips....I have considered going to a leaning post? Hope this helps
This is from a 18 foot Aquasport my next project!

Hey Richard,
Just curious are you building a center console from scratch...I mean are you mounting a center console in a boat that did not originally come with one? If so I am about to do the same with my 18' Sea Nymph.

I AM LOOKING FOR SOME IDEAS IF YOU ARE !

Mine is 17" form the console and 20" high, that's too low for me at 6'3". A leaning post would be nice.

I spent a lot of time mocking in my setup to make sure I could stand and drive, and sit and drive. You'll have to do the same thing. It ends up being a compromise no matter what, so you want to set it up to be the most comfortable in the most used position. I optimized mine more for standing, with the ability to sit and drive fairly comfortable. The only time I sat was when it was 30 degrees out and I wanted to cower behind the windshield to avoid wind chill.

Re: How far apart should the C/C & the seat be ?

Thanks for the info I need an idea of how much space and you guys provided and thanks

The boat I am working on WAS like this front deck, side console on the right and live well on the left and a bench seat in the rear. the old side console was 22" from the seat and At one time it was not a console either way 22" was too much. the boat is 16' so I really do not have much room

My idea was to combind the console and the livewell and the place it in the center so I have more room plus from some uncomfortable reason I like the c/c.

right now I am actually working on how the wiring, plumbing, control are going to be ran from the rear of the boat to the console. to this I am putting some pvc pipes in. Under the console I have fabed up some f-glass boxes to go at the end of pvc. that were I am at.

Are far as the seat and console I was planning on making my own how not sure how yet but were there is a will and Iboats there is a way

I am going to use some of the #'s provided and use some boxes and com up with somthing plus I guess right now I do not need to perfect it is just wiring right

One last thing can I post pics and if so how I have a digital camera. I have never try to upload any pics.
If I can post pics I'd love to share my my naked lady with you....

thanks for all the help

Hey Rich I have a very similar post on here right now I am converting a 18'Sea Nynph from a split window to a CC I have everything figured as far a routeing is concerned with the exeption of my teleflex cable....I am sure this is a common problem with this conversion,,,,,I have considered Hydralic steering?

You guys should click on the skanky beast link in JasonJ's post - he's been there, done that. I read your other post Tiller, but wasn't entirely positive JasonJ's reconfiguration was a center console until I just checked it.
