How do I test a starter solenoid that's attached to a starter? (20' Shamrock 2001)

My friend has a 20' Shamrock with an inboard Chevy motor, the starter is intermittent and need to figure out if it could be the starter solenoid or some other issue before the solenoid.

If I could find a wiring schematic I might be able to figure it out, searched google but unable to locate a drawing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Jerry

Shamrock is typically a true inboard, right? Shouldn't be an OMC though (I don't think). Do you know the displacement of the engine?

Take a look at the main starter solenoid, there will be a #10 yellow/red wire, get a test light and check if the light works when the key is turned to start. If it does not light then trace the wire to the smaller solenoid and test it the same way.

Thanks,

I didn't realize there was a second solenoid, I didn't see it. Must be under a cover, I'll take a look and test both as you describe.
