OK, I replaced the water pump in my '88 45hp merc, and put it back together, everything seems ok. I am going to test it tonight after work, but how will I know if everything is sealed and working as its supposed to? Its easier with a water pump in a car, you just look for leaks etc. But Other than it pushing out water and the pressure guage, is there something else I should be on the look out for? Thanks

Edit >> Also, what should the water pressure be?

If the impellar was in one piece when you changed it out, watching the water pressure is a good indicator on the job you did. If the impellar was fragmented, you better be monitoring temperature for awhile as well. Any impellar pieces unaccounted for can cause grief.

I believe the pressure should be between 7.5-14psi according to teleflex...... :)

Cool, thanks!
I tested it yesterday, and it seems good.
The impeller I replaced was in one piece and wasn't missing any rubber when I took it out.
The psi ranges from RPM right?
Thats what is does now, and is low when idleing, but I think its because of the low idle. I dumped the gas (was a year old) and am going to put some fresh clean gas to see if that was the idle problem, I couldn't get it up past 4500 RPM either on full throttle.
(new boat to me, just got it a week or so ago)

Thanks! :D
