Honda BF2D starting after long storage

2001 Honda 2hp 4-stroke model BF2D. Every time I used this engine, including the last time I used it 2 years ago, I turned the gas off and ran it dry. The last time I used it (2 years ago), I ran the tank completely dry. I did not use the drain on the bottom of the bowl though. Then I put it in a dry, heated storage area.

Today I cannot get it started. I put a new plug in it, and I get a yellow (def not blue) spark, and after several (dozens) of pulls the plug does not seem to have gas on it when pulled. I have checked that there is gas flowing through the carburetor drain screw. I have read that the carburetor jet is so small that it cannot be cleaned, but then I also have read a lot of other less than factual things on the internet. Any comments and/or ideas here?

Thanks in advance.

It's not that you can't clean that carb ,but that it is hardly worth the effort. The time you spend or pay someone else to do will easily cover a new carb and then some. These little guys do not offer up a big beefy spark on pullover so I think you're ok there.Honda carbs are very resonable and might be worth consideration.Other than that you will be putting it in an ultrasound tank and rolling the dice.

would it be the opinion that:

a) not draining the carburetor (just running it dry) would cause it to be clogged and
b) that if the plug is not wet after repeated starting attempts

that the problem is most likely a clogged carb then? I would hate to replace a part before I isolate it as a problem.

For anyone reading this that may have the same problem, I fixed it and here is what i did:

First, made sure it had spark by running a short wire to the head ( i just wedged it into the spark plug hole, and wrapped it around the plug threads). Then i turned it over and could see yellow spark.

Second, after too many pulls and blisters on my hands from trying to start it, and seeing no gas on plug after all these tries. I took carburetor off, took bowl off, and tried to blow into the main nozzle. It was obviously clogged as i could not blow through it at all. Then I used a reaaaaally thin strand of wire (i just stripped the same piece i used to test the plug, and used a strand from that) to push up into the main nozzle and worked it around. Then I tried to blow through it again and I could push some air through it.

Put it all back together- and first pull- Bingo, she runs.

If plug is completely dry after pulling rope, definitely a stucked needle, disassemble carb in pieces, remove all plastic, rubber parts, and let soak in carb clean for some time, finish with carb spry, assemble again, should work perfect.
