I've heard from many about the above problem with Hondas' 9.9, and that it's due to the low idle jet fouling easily and often unless the fuel is pristine.

I'm considering buying a dinghy that will come with a 3-5 hp Honda. Does anyone know if this idling problem extends across the entire Honda line?

Bob

Honda's have very sensitive carb's. If you have a good water seperator filter in line and keep it clean you will have no problems. We rig every boat, no matter on horsepower, with the best water seperating filter. Keep the fuel clean and you should have no problems...
